U.S. Agriculture Service

Through our U.S. Agriculture Service, we provide detailed forecasts and analyses of the U.S. agriculture sector by segment: crops, livestock, and farm income. At the core of our agriculture capabilities is our U.S./Canada Agriculture Sector Forecasting Model.

Complete supply and utilization coverage is provided for wheat, corn, sorghum, barley, oats, soybeans, soybean meal, soybean oil, cotton, rice, hay, beef, pork, broilers, turkeys, eggs, and dairy. Farm income coverage includes detailed breakdowns of consumer food price indices, agricultural producer price indices, crop costs of production, farm cash receipts and government payments, farm expenses, net farm income, and the farm balance sheet. In addition, the U.S. Agriculture Service provides projections of acreage, yield, and production for durum wheat, spring wheat, and winter wheat, as well as acreage projections for rye, peanuts, sunflowers, dry edible beans, potatoes, sugar beets, sugar cane, tobacco, canola, millet, and flax.

With the release of the May 2008 forecast, a significant change in the U.S. table formats will occur. Current tables will be reformatted to include additional details on crop net returns per acre (the primary driver for crop acreage) and more specific demand breakouts including feed demand by livestock type for corn and soybeans. Commodity coverage will expand to include full supply and use tables for canola, canola meal, canola oil, sunflowers, sunflower meal, sunflower oil, peanuts, peanut meal, and peanut oil. In addition, biofuels coverage will be expanded to include coverage of ethanol and biodiesel profitability margins, as well as ethanol and biodiesel supply and utilization tables.
